A wise move for Homeserve

Homeserve Claims Management is now the UK's leading Insured Domestic Emergency home assistance company.

The business has seen significant growth since being formed in April 2000, with the business now employing around 650 staff (380 full time equivalents) and handling in excess of 600,000 claims per year.

Homeserve moved from their town centre premises to Fulwood Park, near the motorway network, as a result many staff struggled getting to work as many use public transport and the building meant some staff taking two buses to work.

CallNorthWest, through the Business Support and Investment Policy Task Group facilitated a number of meetings with Preston City Council’s buses. It was evident that Homeserve was a big employer in the area and changes needed to be made to ensure existing and potential new staff could get to work.

CallNorthWest also led discussions with Preston Grasshoppers (who have a large site in Fulwood) who were able to provide a park and ride scheme to Homeserve staff.

Preston Council were very supportive and helped Homeserve by re-routing bus routes and ensuring there was a bus stop outside of the building, with the operation being 24/7 and many staff on shifts this was important with regards to personal security. It also helped staff as they did not have to walk miles for the bus.

Homeserve are now operating a system whereby staff pay £5 per month out of their wages towards a £30 per month travel card, this has resulted in over 30% of staff using public transport. Homeserve are now looking to implement new initiatives to get that figure to 35%.

Homeserve are pleased with the intervention from CallNorthWest as it has allowed them to focus on other issues to help the contact centres grow. Homeserve is growing and are in the process of looking for additional premises/seats in the locality thus providing more jobs.
